Cultivation and Market
Researcher: Tanner Filyaw

Harvesting – The bark should be harvested in either the spring or fall from the
smaller branches in order to not harm the tree.  The bark should then be dried
under pressure so it remains flat.  It is recommended that bark should only be
harvested from individuals that are at least 10 years of age (29).

Propagation – Seeds should be sown in a cold frame when they are ripe, and should
germinate within a few days. Stored seeds should be sown in early spring and
kept inside for their 1st winter, and then planted outside the following spring or
summer of second year.  Stored seeds may require 2-3 months of cold
 stratification before they germinate (4).

Market – Bulk sales $2-$3 per pound, $9-$12 retail, $6.80-$7.25 wholesale, $5-$7 seeds
